One Year After MSU and Six Years After Parkland, We Honor With Action

Parkland, FL — “Today, we remember one year since the Michigan State University (MSU) shooting, which killed three students. Tomorrow marks six years since the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, Florida, which killed 17 students and educators and injured 17 more. Another two people died following the Parkland shooting from the unbearable pain and sorrow. Marking these tragedies on back-to-back days underscores a devastating reality: America’s grief from one tragic shooting often bleeds into the next one in an endless cycle of mourning. These memorials are a heartbreaking reminder of the lives lost, and their futures that will never unfold. We share in the anguish of families who are still grieving.
In the shadow of this dark day, we’re appalled that most of our “leaders” continue to value guns over our lives, including lawmakers in Florida who once again are putting partisanship ahead of our right to live by threatening to repeal the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act. In honor of all those lost to the senselessness of gun violence, we recommit to fighting for our right to live free of fear from guns. Onwards.”
