The House of Representatives Did Something to Save Lives; Will the Senate?

Senators from both parties are talking a lot about doing something to stop the historic surge in gun deaths. They aren’t voting, so we’re marching.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Gun violence isn’t killing Republicans or Democrats, it’s killing all of us. We should be able to agree that saving lives is the most important thing to do. We’re not asking for Congress to confiscate guns, or ban all weapons—we’re asking for basic protections from senseless violence and unnecessary death. That’s it.

And yet, communities in every corner of the country are afraid to go to their grocery store, their school, or their hospital. Gun safety simply isn’t a partisan issue. We’re glad to see the Protecting Our Kids Act pass, and pass with some bipartisan support. When we marched in 2018, we saw state legislatures pass over 150 pieces of legislation to prevent gun violence. Our activism works. We hope that when we march this Saturday, the federal government and the Senate will finally take their cue to protect our lives.
