The Current ⚡️ July 2024

A NOTE FROM kai – Discord Team Lead

I’m Kai! I’m a rising junior in high school and live in Knoxville, Tennessee! I’m also part of the Welcome Team and the Discord Team lead! I got involved with March For Our Lives for two main reasons. One of those reasons was to help build a better world for my 4 younger siblings. The middle school I attended (and two of my siblings are in currently) was the opposite of a safe space. The atmosphere was consistently painted with a violent tension.
Aside from being an outlet for your emotions, March For Our Lives also allows you to regain much-needed control over your future. Joining March For Our Lives also means joining a wonderful, supportive community. As part of the Welcome Team, one of my favorite parts of the week is our weekly Monday meetings. Seeing, talking with, and working with the team is an amazing experience that I always look forward to, and so should you! (The rest of the team shares this sentiment; shout out to the wonderful Payton and Ashton!)

They’ve built a five-year, four-phase, three-election strategy to mobilize our generation and flex our political power to take back our future.

OUR WORK ON THE PRA

In-person and online, working to transform public safety for all.

Earlier this summer, organizers from across the country came together for one day in Washington, DC, to advocate for the People’s Response Act. The People’s Response Act, spearheaded by U.S. Representative Cori Bush, proposes a groundbreaking shift in public safety. The Act advocates for a holistic approach, integrating public safety with health services under the Department of Human Health and Services. Addressing root causes and focusing on prevention aims to save lives and foster community well-being. Emphasizing equity and inclusivity, the Act strives to create systems that support all communities to thrive.

With 225+ meetings and office drop-ins, June 12th kicked off our summer of grassroots advocacy, fighting for a better future. Keep the momentum going! Click the link below to message your representative and learn more about how you can get involved in the fight to pass the People’s Response Act.

Upcoming in the Movement

07/3024 – Movement Strategy Session

There are 100 days until the election. From the school board to the White House, we can wield governing power against the small but organized group of far-right extremists aligned with the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Project 2025 and its threats to our movement and democracy are real, but we’ve seen throughout history when young people come together across race and class to organize, we WIN.

08/01/2024 – Project Heatwave Team Meeting

With 225+ meetings and office drop-ins, June 12th kicked off our summer of grassroots advocacy, fighting for a better future. Keep the momentum going! Click the link below to join the team and learn more about how you can get involved in the fight to pass the People’s Response Act.
