Bank caves to Trump pressure, betraying Parkland survivors who inspired the groundbreaking corporate responsibility measure
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 3, 2025 — Today, March For Our Lives condemned Citigroup’s shameful decision to cave to Trump administration pressure and abandon its 2018 gun safety policy that restricted banking services to retailers selling firearms to people under 21.
March for Our Lives Executive Director Jackie Corin said:
“Citi just chose appeasing Donald Trump over protecting the lives of kids. Seven years ago, after 17 of my peers and teachers were murdered, Citi found the courage to say ‘no more’ — no more financing gun sales to teenagers. Today, they’re saying our lives matter less than their politics.
Here’s a question for Citi: Does your vision for building “economically vibrant communities” for young people include using your products to arm kids?
We won’t hold our breath for an answer. But March for Our Lives – and young people across America – won’t forget what you did.”
