Senate Fails to Ban Bump Stocks, MFOL Responds

WASHINGTON, D.C.  — “Last week, the Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority chose to ignore survivors and the safety of all Americans by legalizing bump stocks. Today, their far-right counterparts in the United States Senate followed suit and refused to ban these dangerous attachments, which will lead to more weapons of war in more places, and inevitably lead to more avoidable deaths,” said Zeenat Yahya, Director of Policy at March For Our Lives. “Over 80% of Americans support a ban on bump stocks, and in 2017, following the Las Vegas shooting, Senate Republicans also supported a ban. However, today’s vote makes it perfectly clear that they are only willing to act after mass carnage and out of their own political ambitions. The Senate not only failed to do its job in keeping us safe but chose the NRA and its blood money over our lives and the lives of our children. Guns are the leading cause of death for children, and amidst this surge in gun violence, partisan hacks on the Court and in the Senate have once again told us that our lives aren’t worth saving. As we’ve said before, there will be another shooting, and thanks to legalized bump stocks there is a good chance it will be exponentially deadlier. The Supreme Court and the United States Senate have blood on their hands.”
