In VP Debate, Walz Proposes Real Solutions to Prevent Gun Violence While Vance Proposes Hypocrisy

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Last night, during the Vice Presidential debate, while JD Vance suggested fortified schools with “stronger doors,” Tim Walz offered preventative solutions to end gun violence. Despite clear evidence that loose gun laws lead to more deaths, Vance doesn’t want to talk about guns—he wants to talk about “mental health” and armed guards at schools. Let’s talk about it. Vance opposed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which invested billions in school-based mental wellness, instead arguing that we should arm teachers. And from Parkland to Uvalde, time and time again, armed school officers do not prevent school shootings. Unlike Vance who believes school shootings are a “fact of life,” Walz recognizes we can and must end gun violence. As the Minnesota Governor, Walz signed common sense laws that prevent gun violence long before someone picks up a gun. As Vice President, he promises to fight alongside Kamala Harris to ban assault weapons, expand universal background checks, and pass extreme risk protection orders. March For Our Lives is proud to make Harris-Walz our first-ever endorsement because these candidates don’t have to “wave a magic wand” to prevent gun violence—they sign laws.
