First Guns, Now Abortion: This Court is Illegitimate in the Eyes of Young People

For the first time ever, the youngest Americans enjoy fewer constitutional rights than our parents and grandparents as the Supreme Court abandons settled constitutional law and lurches into far-right politics 

Washington, D.C. – 24 hours after gutting century-old gun safety laws, March For Our Lives activists are appalled that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v Wade, a bedrock of our constitutional rights. Young people have only ever known this right-wing SCOTUS and it’s clear to us that the Court is more interested in scoring political points than protecting the rights enshrined to us in the constitution. We are watching the erosion of rights promised to us long before we were born by an unelected, unaccountable, undemocratic Court packed with illegitimate judges forced through by a President who lost the popular vote in an election before many of us were even able to vote. Is this democracy?

Both of these rulings will lead to more trauma, preventable tragedies and death. This is a racist attack. This is a classist attack. This is a gender-based attack. We have organized before and won, and we will organize again to protect our right to be free of gun violence and to choose what we do with our bodies.
